maurice steger, academy professor
Over the years, the Gstaad Baroque Academy has become a magnificent meeting place for young recorder players and baroque instrumentalists. The youngest are 14 years old. We are there to coach these budding virtuosos all the way, we guide their first steps into a professional career, and besides instrumental classes we work with them on planning programmes, presence on stage, development of social skills and playing together; we discuss, exchange, accompany and encourage. The high level of the students is extremely satisfying. They are the very best of the new generation, they have won numerous international competitions and are learning here to lend a purpose to their musical activity, to integrate the current scene, to become in turn beacons of inspiration.

A combination of having lessons and seminars with some of the best professors and artists, the amazing team who cooked and cared for us, the fantastic setting of Schönried and the Ermitage Wellness- & Spa-Hotel Gstaad-Schönried and - maybe the most important: a place to meet so many different people, a room for exchanging music and emotion, to build a strong network of friendships and music.

The Gstaad Baroque Academy gave me not only the possibility to attend courses held by renowned professors or to visit seminars, but also to interact with those of the same age within my discipline and to play music together. The wide-ranging offer, the value of learning and the free visits to concerts of the Menuhin Festival, with top musicians, enriched the practice and added depth to the content. I appreciated and appreciate this very much. In the very pleasant surroundings of the Saanenland, with delicious cuisine and catering by the friendliest staff, I enjoyed studying very much. Thank you!
